What I am Thankful For

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

I love Thanksgiving, and though this year I am far from my family, as I sit here writing this post, I am excited for the day ahead… and to stuff my face with delicious food.. because obviously that is just as important as being thankful… right?

So here is a list of what I am thankful for this year!

1. My Family… although it didn’t work out that we were all together this year I have the best family in the world that has supported me and each other through everything and I love them so much!!

Image

2. YODA… this dog has brought me so much joy since august! talk about learning what unconditional love is… he was with me when I needed a silent cuddle buddy and I love every minute with the little nugget!

Image

3. FRIENDS…. again I don’t know what I would do without the support of everyone in my life! Thank you for putting up with all my ridiculousness and giving me the best memories.. not to mention being priceless subjects for countless photos….

4. HEALTH… today I was able to run 3 miles and then do a sweaty weight/plyo circuit… and so I am thankful to my body for allowing me to push myself to be healthy and strong!

5. JOB(s) This week I was lucky enough to start my dream job! I am officially the Associate in the Mind Body Doctor, my mentor’s one person company. She has invited me to become her business partner and now I have an office and clients! 6 months after graduation everything I dreamed about happening for 2 years has come through! I am also grateful for my nannying job, the family who is taking me in today and has become my adopted family here in Nashville!

6. NASHVILLE.. I love this city… this move was definitely an adjustment for me but I have been able to active so much in such a little time, and I have never felt so much at home in a place… so this year I am truly thankful for finding that place I can call home!

And finally I am thankful for my readers  and people who read this blog even when I only post once a month! I really have been amassing recipes to get some posts going in the next couple of weeks!

Sorry if that was a tad emo-tastic… I love you all and hope you have a great thanksgiving with your loved ones!!!

Weekend in Nashville!

Howdy! After this post I will be all caught up and actually start doing real posts again.. maybe I will even start cooking again and post REAL recipes… hmm lets not get too ahead of ourselves shall we?

Also exciting news…. MASTERS PROJECT HAS BEEN SUBMITTED!!! In the words of Sheldon Cooper

Anywho this weekend I had the pleasure of spending the weekend with several new and old favorite people in NASHVILLE! Why Nashville you ask? Well my friend Whitt lives in Nashville so I went to visit him as well as my friend Dave from HS and my friend Kristen who I have known since I was 6! My friends Bryan and Marvin from HS came too, as well as two of Whitt and Bryan’s friends from college Jack and Marni (who is my new bffl)! Needless to say it was super fun, kind of a disaster, and the best weekend!

Foodie highlights included Local Taco in West Nashville (OMG.. coolest/best tacos ever) brunch at Fido’s, and of course the Surf and Turf Whitt and I made on thursday night… that was super delicious.. pan seared scallops, steak, asparagus, tomatoes, and yummy rosemary garlic bread!

Instead of highlighting each moment/activity I am just going to share pictures… fun facts tho…experienced a paint party/rave minus the paint as we were too late (hence the neon), went to a frat house for the first time since college, went to the prettiest park ever, and ran around getting people to kiss a toy armadillo… if that doesn’t say win… I don’t know what does

It was a fantastic weekend… a little obsessed with Nashville.. its so pretty and green and southern and awesome! However its like 90 here today and sunshiny so DENCO isn’t too bad of a place to be either!!!

now off to get ma sweat on… I have been lazy over my vacay….

Finally… DC

So between traveling and trying to get work done on my masters project I have either had no access to internet or just no time… sorry i fail yet again haha.. on the bright side my daily activities now also include job searching… yay

Ok soooo now to my recap of DC!!!!!

As I have already stated the day of the marathon was HOTHOTHOT… after finishing the race we drove around for awhile admiring the beautiful cherry blossoms that were in bloom while on our way to Georgetown to drop my friend Lyndsey off! In addition to watching the race, Lyndsey was visiting her friends from W&L who now live in DC! Sadly Lauren and I did not going them for St. Patrick’s Day festivities because well my legs wanted no part of walking/dancing/or being upright really ahahhahaa

After dropping Lyndz off we went to meet my friend Erica at Shake Shack!!! I was so excited when I saw there was a Shake Shack and knew that was exactly what I wanted after my marathon! And it was delicious! I got the black and white milk shake with a cheese burger and crinkle cut fries…. OMG

My mom, Lauren and I all agreed that we wished the milkshakes were big as we could have had seconds! Thankfully the line was too long as we were leaving to entertain that thought! Especially with what was on the menu for dinner!!! After resting in the room for a few hours and hanging out with Molly who we missed at the race, Lauren and I met another friend from high school, Haley for pizza at Pizza Paradiso!

This place was so cool with tons of draft beers (no Bud Light for me, I was actually adventurous) and delicious sounding personal pizzas! We all ordered margarita pizzas and then added personal toppings, I got spinach, red peppers and pepperoni… YUM

mmmm just look at that crust…. it was definitely one of my top favorite restaurant pizzas that is for sure!

After dinner Lauren and I walked back to the hotel where I promptly passed out in a wonderful running/exhaustion induced sleep!

The next morning we were up and at em deciding to get lunch and then head our separate ways, Lauren back to Penn State, and me and my mom back to our beach house! As we were checking out we ran into one of my brother’s best friends from HS, who had run the half (and qualified for Boston in her previous marathon because she is amazing and superrunnergirl) Her name is also Lauren, and I had been taking to her but we missed her the previous day at the race and I never thought to ask where she was staying! Funnily enough not only was she at our hotel but staying a few rooms  away on the same floor… small world!

We decided to meet her and another girl who had gone to our high school at Sweet Greens in Georgetown! OMG This salad place was soooo good! I got a grain bowl which consisted of barley, quinoa, and another grain that right now I am forgetting along with avocado, tomatoes, peppers, romaine lettuce, and shrimp! This was so good!

After leaving Lauren  and Kate, PMull Lauren and I went on a quest to find Baked and Wired, a cupcake place supposedly better than Georgetown Cupcakes… and without the ridiculous line! OMG these cupcakes were amazing! Lauren got the Texas Sheet Cake, my mom got the Chocolate Doom, and I being predictable got Red Velvet because really I am never one to pass up an amazing Red Velvet Cupcake… who is?

We walked around with our cupcakes for a bit before heading back to the hotel to say bye!

It was such a fun weekend and I felt so lucky to be able to see so many wonderful people… and ya know run 26.2 miles… and eat delicious food!!!!

Later I will do a 360 and recap VEGAS…. quite different from DC haha

Pep Talk Tuesday: You Got A Friend In Me

I would like to begin this post by saying… I hate Puppy Chow.. or well actually I LOVE it.. but I hate it because I can’t stop eating it because it is so delicious and small so I think it is ok to eat a million handfuls at 10:53 am in the morning… the saving grace is that I am sharing it with classmates who have helped devour over half of a HUGE bag in 2 hours… gross… we are all gross… because it is absurdly early to be eating all this junk… it is my fault for making it but whatever!

Soo welcome to my second official Pep Talk Tuesday! Today I wanted to talk about something extremely important in my life, and I believe a central part of most others lives as well.. Friendship

Throughout my life I have moved many times, and unfortunately other than a few family friends, do not have many friends from when I lived in Illinois, Denver, or Maryland. I do of course still have my closest friend from when I lived in Michigan… somehow we can’t get away from each other ;) Love you Con Con

However I since high school I have come to value all of the friendships that I have developed and sustained through those high school, college, and now post-grad life. At one point or another there have been friends whom I thought would be in my life forever and are no longer a large part of my life, but the brief part that they played still impacted who I am, and what I wanted out of that point in my life. I treasure everyone who has come through my life, even if it was just passing through. There are also people that I knew from the beginning I would be close to from the beginning. For example, I always knew that my friend Hadbav would be my roommate, and one of my best friends throughout college. Through thick and thin we had each others back.. even from far away and I will always cherish her as part of my life! My friend Kathleen as well, was someone I knew from the start would be a huge part of my life here in Denver, and I am so glad that we have had the chance to become so close… even through sometimes I am a crazy person.

There are also the friends who are my family, like my DPHIE family, Big, Littles, and other sisters who are as part of me as my actual family. Friends like Emma who is my mirror on our ridiculous lives, who has sat with me at my lowest and understood when I was a brat, or Erica who constantly tells me what I need to hear- not what I want to hear. My big is my mentor, friend, and idol in how she goes after what she wants and hasn’t allowed herself to settle in her jobs. My littles are my joy, both in entertainment value but also just as the younger sisters I never had. They keep me going, build me up, but also teach me things I wouldn’t have learned without them. Before them I had Kendall, my younger sister from England, my partner in crime in swimming and other high school/post high school events. Her family has become mine and even though we are miles apart now in distance and stage of life, when we talk it lights up my day!

In my life I am lucky enough to have wonderful partners in crime, like Hadbav, Emma, Erica, and of course Twink and Collen. The last two especially have been recently the ying to my yang, and my core here in Denver, like this summer when it was just us here! They have been incredible through out so much in the last few months, and I know that I can always count on them… and I hope they feel the same!! Seriously thank you Collen and Twink… LOVE. In high school it was people like Lauren, Haley, Ally and Lyndsey, people who I am lucky enough to still have in my life even if we don’t see each other all the time or talk every day! I am so lucky to have had these friends who have consistently had my back and vice versa, people who even when we hate each other we still love each other deep down!

There  are also those friends that you live with, that see you daily, for me I have been pretty lucky to have mostly great roommates…. and I have been so lucky to have my current roomie Liza in my life. Liza grounds me in a much needed way, and has been a great board to bounce ideas off of, taste tester, partner in crime, and shoulder to cry on. I respect her so much, and love her to death! LOVE you roomsies

I would also like to thank my friend Taryn, who is my biggest inspiration in school here, and when things get rough. She also is my blogs biggest fan, and a lot of times I write for her. She shows me why I blog, and reminds me why it is important! These kinds of friends, those who show what you do matters are irreplaceable so if you have one or ten don’t let them go!

I also have great guy friends. Guy friends are different than girl friends in that I am usually not going to cry out all my problems to them the way I would say Liza… but in HS I did depend on these boys (Billy, Bryan, Kevin, Mark, Bamster, Dave) for a lot, and here in Denver I have the Conster, Ted, and Ian… and my dear friend Goose from NYC… I love you boys just as much as the girls and am lucky to have you all in my life!

Basically the point of this Pep Talk is to remind you of the different roles people can play.. and that friends are something to hold on to no matter what. It is also to recognize the loves of my life, and to let them know how much i need/appreciate/and love them to the end of the world. Value your friends, don’t underestimate them. I often times close up and forget that my friends are there for me, and I should share, because if I don’t then I am shutting them out NOT the other way around. When you close yourself off- you do exactly that- you isolate yourselves and those who could lift you up and bring another perspective don’t get the chance to do that, and so your life will never change for the better. Sometimes you are gonna piss people off, but if the love and trust and basis of a great relationship is there, those people aren’t going anywhere.. sometimes people just need space.
And now I will end this as I end all Pep Talk Tuesdays, with some Pinterest Quotes!! Enjoyyyy

So tell your friends you love them!!! Have a great Tuesday every one!!!

What are your friends like? Do you have one main group, or a lot of spread out groups?

Rollerblading… Take Two

Hello!

Im bad at this… I keep peacing out for a few days! But yesterday was hectic and I did not want to share just in case Kathleen read it! Why you ask??

KATHLEEN’S SURPRISE BACHELORETTE PARTY

My friend Kathleen is getting married on July 9th, and so we threw her a party so she could celebrate with her friends here in Denver!

I had the best time planning this party, it reminds me how much I love planning things!! Kathleen was really surprised and it was a great time for everyone!

The main event of the night was a Bar Golf! This included 6 “holes” or bars that we had to hit par at by ordering certain drinks! The first hole was at my friend Colleen’s and the last hole was a party at our friend Ted’s!

Liza and I made personalized glasses for all the girls!

                                                                          and of course the munchies!!!

                                                                                        prettyyyyy!

The Bride to be and all the girls!! Isn’t Kat the cutest? Since it was a bar golf theme we were all decked out in golf gear! We had a great time doing the different levels and hopping from one happy hour to another! Colleen did a great job picking each bar based on specials!

and then it was time to go to Ted’s! It was great to be able to bring the boys into our celebration!  and of course have a dance party! Oh and some pong… because it’s not a party at Ted’s without pong!

Yea… I love red velvet cupcakes!!! Only… these were quite dry! I don’ understand because I have made this recipe millions of times and they usually rock my socks off… but I’m wondering if it was the altitude? I haven;t made them here yet… hmmm

This morning I woke up early, with no power cord so unable to upload pics and blog until I got to babysit! And I woke up at the time of the sculpt class I was aiming for.. boo! So I allowed myself two blissful hours of watching the OC and relaxing in bed until it was time to go play with Baby H!! We hung out, then he napped and I  watched HP, uploaded pics and ate POPCORN!!! I love popcorn sooo much!

After a fun 3 hours with the little guy it was straight to the park for rollerblading take two!! My amazing friend Taryn is a very talented Ice Skater and rollerblader, and volunteered to teach me!! So we had a nice hour meandering around the park twice! And I only fell a few times with NO scrapes!!! Wooo I am getting better… I just need to learn to do downhills!

After a few more errands it was home finally to my couch to watch Harry Potter on ABC family and do some work!!

For dinner? I went for baked wings (mmmmm) a pizza bagel, and baby bell peppers!!!

Yea I’m so weird/attractive… I also need to get better lighting!!!

Ok off to enjoy HP with Lize! And maybe get froyo… we shall see!

Was your Sunday a Lazy one or a Busy one?

Have you planned/had a bachelorette party? What did you do??

May the 4th be with you

Ok…. so first things first, this afternoon’s post was a departure from my usual quasi-ADHD ridiculous posts but I wanted to share another part of me! And ya know what? I’m really glad I did! It made me realize after ppl reached out to me, that so many people feel that they have to bundle up their stuff, as to not burden others! I know its hard and scary but let it out! From now on I am actually going to use my friends as sounding boards, and while I still don’t want to overwhelm them, talking it out will help, and build the bonds of friendship. Seriously self-disclosure between friends is what shows us someone really trusts us! So even if it is just one person, pick a friend to call, skype, text, run with, anything so that you know that you always have someone!

On that same token.. show your friends you appreciate them! Whether it’s a thank you, a batch of cookies, or just a smile, sometimes we forget to really show the people in our lives some love. It is easy to get wrapped up in stuff and forget but when the chips are down our support system is always there! Thank you everyone for showing me that today!

Ok… so emo note aside… today is STAR WARS day…. May The Fourth Be With You…. hahahahah get it?? May The Force Be With You? HAHAHAH so funny… and I am the biggest nerd ever… but it’s cool cuz it’s one of my quirks and I love it… I’m a cool nerd (right?) Anyways today I saw on Kim’s blog Star Wars cookies… made with Star Wars cookie cutters!!!! I got so excited I ran to tell LIza about them…. and then of course after spending time with Munchkin and his mom  (Happy Birthday Jess!) I went straight to Williams Sonoma and bought them! yesssssssss

Sadly the dough has to chill so no cookies till tomorrow… but still how cool right?  I also wanna talk for a second about how much I love WIlliams Sonoma. It cures all…. I want to work there, and get a discount on all the fun toys!

Ok off to go fall asleep to Star Wars… I mean duh of course I have to watch it tonight

Are you a Star Wars fan?

Are you a sharer of emotions or a holder-in?

Better times they are a-coming

Goodness I HOPE this quote that I saw while i was running in CENTRAL PARK yesterday! While my weekend in NYC was fantastic and made me fell loved beyond belief, being back here just makes me feel alone for some reason. (writing this while  in my room with the door closed listening to emo music hahaha) I dunno I’m just being silly but I am just ready for something new and fun to happen, something hat will give my life a tad more depth? Basically I need a hobby other than school/munchkin/consulting/working out obsessively. Any suggestions?

So back to that run….I had quite the ambitious work out yesterday.. NYC does this to me! I went spinning at SOULCycle.. my favortie spin studio, and then ran 5.5 miles in Central Park! It was wonderful, god I miss that place… SO FREAKING MUCH…. I want to go back.. now…

Can you tell I’m having withdrawal?

So after my run/spin on Monday, I had a wonderful time shopping with Nicole (besto) where we came up with my future private practice… RETAIL THERAPY… am I right or am I right? One I would be great at this because I am awesome at helping people shop (thank you shopping addiction) and also you always talk to your friends about issues when you are shopping so why not make therapy more fun by doing it while shopping? Ok confidentiality MIGHT be an issue.. but hey I’m still working out the kinks… yes this from the Sports Psychology Consultant in training…. oops.

aaaand thennn we went to my favorite lunch place… Grey Dogs! If you live near NYU or Chelsea… GO NOW… it’s sooo goood! Sandwiches, burgers, breakfast, coffee, cool slightly hipster environment! AFter that we said goodbye.. tear, and I met my friend Lauren from HS for a Starbucks date! This was a back from college tradition with us until she moved to Houston this summer! It was so nice to catch up with her! We were both in NYC for our friend Lyndsey’s 23rd birthday Booze Cruise!

me and the birthday girl!!!

high school reunion! Lauren, Mark, and Me!

me and my friend Cara… on a boat!!!!

yes that is me… rapping I’m on a Boat… I know EVERY word… sad? possibly

After the cruise ended we met up with Nicole and her BF Will at my favorite bar in NYC, Brother Jimmys!

Best part of Bro J’s? The fishbowls! Athough they leave you with a serious sugar crash the next morning.. not much alcohol….. A LOT of fugar

Oh man I am the definition of a winner… do you know how many of these pictures I have? Like 800…. its ridiculous

Nicole and Will!!! soooo purdy

yea… winning… but look at all the cool straws!

Ahhh great night! It was the reason I wnet up, and it was definitely a TOP night! (anyone see that seen in Wedding Date where the cousin drunkenly yells that? no just me?)

On Sunday… brunch time!!! I’ve already described it so I will just share pics with you!

ahhhh so fun!!!! Thank you everyone for hosting me/ hanging out/ just being awesome!!!!
Now I’m back.. and it’s a little bit of a flat feeling… but oh well

On the bright side theres been a lot of good food today!

Wing Sauce Chicken Salad for lunch with homemade pita chips and guac!

And a very veggie pasta salad for dinner! I love pasta salad! It always reminds me of swim meets in middle school, because they would sell bomb pasta salad at the concession stands! I have been recreating it myself for sometime now and it s really easy!

Whole Wheat Fusili

Cucumbers (one whole cuke)

Peppers ( I used 1 orange one)

1 c slices grape tomatoes

Wishbone Light Italian dressing to taste!!

yumm so good! For a little extra protein I added some chicken sausage!!!

Ok off to do work.. bleh

Do you ever suffer post-trip blues?

What do your favorite foods remind you of?

Living through my TV

OMGOMGOMG Grey’s… kills me every time… just when it seems to be getting old.. BAM they hit you with a dramatic episode that leaves me half in tears and on the edge of the couch… Thank you LIza for putting up with my over involved tendencies with TV shows….

seriously it’s a problem…

On the bright side….. Tomorrow is FRIDAY… not only that but I get to see my friend COLLEEN for the first time in a MONTH!!! WOO WOO.. Colleen has been in Europe for class (she’s getting her MBA.. such a smartie!)

neon party (Colleen, Liza, Kathleen, my friend Kiki and I were the only ones to actually where neon… win)

Unfortunately before I get to see her beautiful face I have two classes.. and a workout!

Today’s workout:

Yoga Sculpt! I tried a new instructor today and she was great! Super sweaty mess at the end of it…  yum

Home and another smoothie for dinner! I just wasn’t hungry after snacking on apples and pita chips/hummus all day!

In da blender:

Strawberries

Raspberries

Bananas

Fage 0% Greek Yogurt

Vanilla Soy Milk

mmmm so good! I am a little obsessed with smoothies right now!

Ok back to being a bum on the couch with da rooms…who BTDUBS got an awesome summer job!!! YAY Liza!!! I shall miss her but she will get great experience and have a wonderful time!! I will be here in the 303, playing with Munchkin and BABY (who’s arrival is in ONE and a HALF weeks!) Consulting (hopefully) and working on my master’s project if/when I figure out what I am doing it on!

Trust me when I figure it out I will share it with all of you! I also meant to do a mental skills post today… but I will do it tomorrow! I want to start once a week doing a post on specific mental skills both to help myself in practice and to help you, my readers who may be athletes of some kind! If you have anything you want to learn more about let me know!

What is your sport/ do you have a favorite performance tool such as visualization or self talk?

Are you an emotional TV watcher?
