Farm Day!

Hello!

This weekend we had the most beautiful Saturday, sunny 50s definitely what you want in January in order to forget that it is actually winter! To take full advantage of the beautiful weather my friend Alex and I took Yoda and his brothers dog, Murphy to meet some of our friends at a farm in Franklin Tn!

Since we werent going down to the farm until abouth 12:30, we had brunch at one of our favorite spots, Tavern! This was my first time getting brunch here, and so I followed Alex’s lead and got the Singapore Stir-fry! OMG this was awesome… and something I am definitely going to try and replicate at home!

IMG_5938IMG_5941Talk about the best way to tire your 8 month old puppy out! Our friend Eric has a dog Reagan and she and Yoda became best friends fast, chasing each other around the fields, and even attempting to intimidate cows…. considering Yoda weighs 13 lbs he was pretty successful… not

It was a great day of being outside and watching the dogs be ridiculous… and watching the boys cut down and move logs to make more room for the cows… I obviously helped…. by Instagraming pictures and playing with the dogs… its a rough job but someone had to do it!

IMG_5973Yoda passed out when we got home, leaving me feeling less guilty to leave him to watch my roommate Sarah play at a writers night and to meet up with Alex, Eric and their friend Meredith for a drink! The perfect low key Saturday! On Sunday I had a client, and then ran 10 miles to keep up with my 1/2 marathon training plan! I have two long runs left in this training and then its a week of taper and then off to Orlando!!!! So excited!!!

What fun things did ou do this weekend?!

Hills and running

Hello there!

So today I wanted to talk about whats been going on fitness wise lately! Way back in July which feels like a hundred years ago I signed up for the Disney Princess 1/2 marathon with Liz!! I kind of forgot about it for awhile and just wasn’t running a lot.. one because I started doing Fitmixer bootcamo and was more focused on those workouts, and two because I had no motivation to run! Then around November the running bug bit me again! Unfortunately with the craziness of my schedule I am only running 3 times a week with 2 short runs and a long run each week mixed in with round 2 of Fitmixer Bootcamp which started up again last week! I have also found an amazing spin class that I go to when I can which is Nashville’s version of Soul Cycle in NYC!

From anyone who read my blog the past two years especially my marathon recap- you know I HATE hills… with a passion. In Colorado I would hit a wall during hills and have to really focus on getting up them. Then when I ran my marathon and it was super hilly- I walked most of them and had a really hard time with it. So when I moved here and realized how hilly it would be when I started running again it kind of stressed me out! However lately all my long runs are pretty hilly because of the easiest route for me to run.. and I haven’t really had a problem at all! I have even started sprinting the hills towards the end of my runs which is typically when I get a burst of energy anyways! I love this new trend I am seeing in my running because it makes me feel so much stronger and able to conquer anything! I think a lot of it has to do with the training I have been doing with Fitmixer! The workouts have really helped to build my endurance and ability to push myself!

Not only have the hills been easy but considering between the months on March and November I ran maybe 5-6 times, my long runs have been great! On all of them I have been able to do negative splits, get faster with each run, and feel like I could keep going! I have stuck to my designated mileage though and instead focused on increasing speed if I have a lot of energy during a run! I really want to PR in this next half of mine and that would be anything under 2:07!

OK thats my running rant of the day!

What have you guys been doing for exercise?

Final Olympics Recap: water polo

Hello!!!
I decided to spread these out for those who like me are having Olympic withdrawal…. And also last week was my first full week of work and I was exhausted/super busy/ got a puppy (more on this later)
So now to the final event we had tickets too… Men’s water polo!!! First can I say omg this looks so hard- treading water and swimming up an down the length of the pool all while trying pass, catch or score goals….new found respect for water polo!
We went on Monday of the second week of the games, to the morning round! We saw Russia v Kazakhstan and Austrailia v Greece! It was a prelim round but we had front row center seats and it was incredible!

After the last match my mom and I scurried over to the today show for the third and last time! I’m pretty sure the crew was beginning to recognize us! It was worth it because we got to meet Nathan Adrian, Rebecca Soni, Dana Vollmer, Matt Grevers, Allison Schmidt, and Katie leDecky! We also saw Oscar pistorius which was great because I really admire his ability to compete against the greats with prosthetics on both legs!

This was a great end to my last day in the park! Afterwards I ventured into the city to meet my friend lyndsey from HS! We went to our favorite pizza place
- pizza express and then relaxed at her flat with a bottle of wine! The next morning we attempted to watch the Triathalon in Hyde park but it was packed!!! So we took lots of pictures instead!

After the tri, Lyndz and I had sushi at Harrods before saying goodbye! She was flying back to Sweden that night, and I had to get home to Weybridge!!
Thus concludes my Olympic recap (tear), but I have a few more London recaps as well as an intro to my newest little roommate!!!!

That Time I hung out with Carmelo… aka Today Show!

And by hang out I mean he made funny faces at me in the crowd, and then I got a picture… well my dad got a picture of the back of our heads because PMull was having difficulty with the IPhone camera.. it happens- but I got a lot of pictures of his face! And everyone else’s! After swimming we got an awesome spot right up front (ok I pushed)  at the Today Show, which meant we got to meet the entire crew who came over, Carmelo, and w got pretty good pictures of everyone else who was on! This pretty much made me and my mom’s day even better.. my two bros weren’t over the moon about standing around for an hour- but I thought it was totally worth it! We are going back tomorrow so be sure to watch the Today Show tomorrow morning!

Here’s the video that shows us!!!! http://todayinlondonblog.today.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/08/01/13068080-carmelo-anthony-we-cant-duplicate-dream-team-92?lite

The Best Day of My LIfe Thus Far

Aka the day I saw swimming live at the Olympics

Seriously.. from the beginning we had an all star line up- Our first event 100 women’s Free featured Jessica Hardy and Missy Franklin, then we had mens 200 IM- oh herrow Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte, Womens 200 breast- Rebecca Soni and Micah Lawrence kicked butt, Mens 200 Back with Lochte and Tyler Clary, and the women’s 4×200 relay which the USA won in the finals later today and set the Olympic record- I spoiled that on Twitter.. sorry.. but I was super excited… and NBC shouldn’t wait till Primetime

Also it was awesome seeing the 200 I’m as that was my race in HS and although I hated it at first I grew to love it!

So I figure I will share my pics and a video from today’s events!

After swimming we found the Today Show- and got on!!!!!!!!! tres exciting!

Ok off to bed because it is almost 1 am my time! catch ya tomorrow with a Today Show recap!

First Day of The Games! (for me)

Helloooooooooooo

OMG I am loving the Olympics… this is basically the best vacation of my whole entire life… and I basically want to go to every Olympics from now on… so Mom and Dad please move every four years… Thanks

Also… sorry if I have been bombarding twitter/facebook… I just can’t help it I’m so damn excited and I just want to share.

In other news.. I am officially a beach volleyball convert! I watched it in Beijing but it wasn’t my favorite… until I was there live… let me tell you… it was amazing.. such a vibrant atmosphere and I loved London’s twist by bringing is dancer’s and getting the crowd to be as loud as possible. I just love that… after all why go to an event if you aren’t going to get a little rowdy?!

We saw four games- each game is made of 2 sets of 21 and then a set of 15 if a tie breaker is needed… we had no tie breakers in any of our games.. the winners blew their opposition away in both sets! We also did not see America.. which I was actually ok with… we got to see Great Britain which is my second home anyways soooo I still got to share some home-team pride! The games were Men: Holland-Germany (Holland won) and Venezuela-Latvia (Latvia won), and Women: Holland-Austrailia (Holland won) and Great Britain-Italy (sadly Italy won)

Also genius London this venue was GENIUS… It was BEAUTIFUL… and you could see the Eye and the Big Ben.. and Beach Volleyball players have amazing bodies.. they definitely rock the bikinis they wear!

and of course on the way back to Waterloo train station I found this scarf and had to buy it- I wore it today to swimming!

It is huge and doubles as a flag… I love it! Needless to say my first ever Olympic event was pretty incredible!

I’ll be back tomorrow with swimming and TODAY show stuff!!! Tomorrow we have no tickets but we aren’t going to the Olympic museum, Borough Market, and to see the rings on Tower Bridge!

Have you been watching the Olympics? What are your favorite events? Have you given any new events a chance and loved them?

Opening Ceremonies!

Hulloa!! Greetings from te American Terminal and Nashville international airport where I’m currently awaiting my flight to Chicago- from there I will be en route to LONDON!!!!!!!!!!!!
I meant to blog yesterday however we had friends in town this weekend and it was a hectic Saturday indeed! And by hectic I mean we spent the day at the pool relaxing with a few cold ones, Chuys take out and good music! Post pool day we went to a wedding- and then out with friends!
However that is not what this post is about- this post is about Friday night!
On Friday, Whitt, my roommate Amanda, her bf Ben and me hung out at our place to watch the ceremonies! I have a personal tradition of eating the food of the nation hosting the Olympics the night of the opening ceremonies! This was started by my mom years ago, and being the traditionalist that I am I’m pretty sure I’m the only one who still follows it!
Anyways to honor the host city and my adopted home city- I made Fish and Chips!
I had never fried fish before but it was pretty easy and super delicious!
I marinated tilapia and flounder in a mix of 1 egg and 1/4 a cup of beer. Then I covered the fish in whole wheat flour and panko. I fried the fish for several minutes in peanut oil until it was crispy! The outcome was crispy deliciousness on the outside and creamy fishy goodness on the inside! We paired our fish with frozen steak fries and an assortment of dipping sauces!

20120729-020258 PM.jpg

20120729-020313 PM.jpg
I also made an Olympic rings cake that I saw on pinterest! I used funfetti cake and vanilla frosting! Sadly my oven was not working correctly and being me I decided to microwave the cake- this is not ever a good idea…. Microwaves and cakes do not mix! But luckily I’m surrounded by the best people who attempted to eat it and assured me it wasn’t that bad… It was…but it looked good!

20120729-020701 PM.jpg
We also enjoyed British beverages such as Pimms and Newcastle! I stuck to Pimms which is my favorite summer drink!
I enjoyed the ceremonies… I especially loved the music of the ages section! And of course seeing Becks (david beckham) carry the torch- I love him!

20120729-020843 PM.jpg
I also saw one of my old teachers who was a volunteer in the games!
All in all it was a great start to the games and I’m already loving the competition thus far!!!
do you have any olympic traditions?
See ya tomorrow from London!

The Countdown begins and lots of tangents

The Opening Ceremonies start in a little over 24 hours, and in just under 96 hours- I will be in LONDON fulfilling my life long dream of going to the Olympics. I will actually be a better blogger than I have in weeks/months and share all the action with you!

This week was my first official week of work- I am nannying full-time but there may be another exciting job development coming up that I will share with you guys as soon as it is solidified! Today while I was nannying we watched the Today show and I got SOSO excited as soon as  saw the cast by the the Tower Bridge with its hanging Olympic rings!!!!!! It was marred slightly by my distaste towards Savannah Guthrie as I am definitely NOT a fan of her but oh well..

Anywhodles I have been eating deliciously this week due to both and  old favorite and two new favorites!

Old Favorite? Zucchini noodles! Why I haven’t been living off of these all summer is a mystery to me… seriously I forgot how much I love these/how easy they are to make! I whipped some up Tuesday night and had them with a little bit of arrabiata sauce and beef kabobs, and yesterday as a late lunch with pesto, shrimp and tomatoes! I also made some today for my bosses- I hope they enjoy them!

My two new favorites are Ezekiel bread- OMG how am I just trying this now? Gluten free, chock full of goodness and protein, and only 80 calories a slice that is so delicious on toast with some avocado, turkey and an egg (aka my lunch today) This bread certainly makes eating clean and feeling full fun and easy!

Favorite number two is Iced coffee made with Vanilla Biscotti folders K cups in my new Keurig one cup! Perfect for my early mornings!

I also have a favorite new toy…. My new Bike:Penny!!!!!!!!

Last Saturday Whitt and I went bike shopping as we decided the time was ripe for us to get bikes! Penny is a Schwinn trail way bike and she is pretty and fun to ride! Of course I had to get a matching helmet because well I match everything… its normal… so if you live in Nashville and want to come play with me and go on a fun ride…. lets do it

Ok now that this post is completely incoherent and rambling…. and I have recovered from my day enough to go to the gym I am going to leave you!

Memorial Day Weekend

Hello Hello!!

I hope everyone had a good Memorial Day weekend!! I know I did it!!! We spent the weekend at Whitt’s parents lake house on Lake Kentucky in Paris, Tennessee!

We drove up Saturday morning as I got in to Nashville late on Friday night!

The weekend was full of everything that makes a good Memorial Day weekend! We had tons of food, from 7 layer dip made by Whitt’s Aunt Christie, his cousin’s awesome homemade cheese dip, grilled dogs and burgers on Whitt’s dad’s infrared grill, and lots of pie! There was also a lot of beer.. and mixed drinks from Whitt’s cousin Brad who is a excellent cocktail creator, however I stuck to the brewskis!

Aside from the food and drink, was all the fun lake stuff! As someone who has always been a water baby, I was really excited to get on their boat and try new fun activities such as water skiing, tubing and jet skiing! It took about 8-10 tries but  I made it up eventually! I am now extremely sore from all of my activities… who would of thought a weekend without traditional workouts would be so physically exhausting?

Saturday night, we had a crazy game of Pictionary, it turns out I am quite good at guessing drawings… I owe it all to DrawSomething… if you haven’t downloaded this game… do it.. its so fun!!!

Yesterday, we stayed at the lake until just after 3, after a day spent with in ally getting up on water skis, an hour swimming in the lake with Whitt, and learning how to drive the boat! We hung out at Whitt’s apartment for a bit in order to relax/shower etc before going to Jack’s BBQ in downtown Nashville for dinner! I had the Texas Beef Brisket with a cucumber and tomato salad, green beans, and a side of corn bread! The veggies were ok, the Brisket was GREAT, and the corn bread was a little stale.

After dinner we went and got ice cream! I figured I had done enough this weekend to warrant some ice cream, and also kinda dropped the clean eating ball this weekend soooo there was nothing to lose! And I do not regret my choice! This ice-cream was fantastic! I got peanut butter cup, chocolate pb ice-cream with swirls of peanut butter and mini pb cups! It reminded me of my favorite ice cream place in the hamptons who had a frozen yogurt version of the same thing!! We ate it while looking out at the river that separates downtown and the Titans stadium! quite a beautiful setting!

We then went back to Whitt’s to watch Iron Man 2! I flew back this morning and am now getting my life back together after being gone all weekend! I have finished all my course work and now just have two more classes and then I am done!!! Graduation next Friday!! wooo!!!!

What did you do this weekend?!
